SRI LANKA BY BUS
3 March 2013, the start of a week-long organised trip to Sri Lanka. A bus awaits us at the arrivals gate of Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport. Little do we know that we’ll be spending most of our stay behind one of its windows, observing towns, villages, boutiques, makeshift stalls, schools, cricket grounds, temples, standing and reclining Buddhas, tourist sites, landscapes, lakes, rice paddies... Through this window I’ll be photographing the organised life there: women walking, umbrella in hand, men in trousers, shorts, motorbikes, bicycles, young schoolchildren in uniform waiting for the bus, workers, families leaving for the day or returning before nightfall. Intimate photographic reportage, shot at an average speed of 35 km/h, motion blurred images, overexposed, bright or too dark, illegible.
